Producers For ‘Southie Pride’ Are Running Into Opposition From The Locals

Just because a production company, 495 Productions to be exact, has a reality TV phenomenon like ‘Jersey Shore’ under its belt doesn’t mean residents of a local town will be jumping at the chance to star in their show.

As we reported yesterday, the production company behind the MTV hit are in South Boston casting for new reality TV show for TLC. Here is a snippet of the press release:

“SOUTHIE PRIDE offers an insider’s look at the faith, hard work, and family that make this blue-collar enclave Beantown’s beating heart. Get ready to experience the loudest, proudest, most in-your-face subculture on the Eastern Seaboard.”

Reports from South Boston have 495 Productions running into opposition from local residents who don’t want their town to be portrayed like Seaside Heights, New Jersey. CBS in Boston talked to a resident who says South Boston isn’t what it used to be, “Girls go to college now, they have careers, they have children later in life as opposed to earlier in life, so yeah, things have changed completely.” says Maureen Dahill. When it comes to the search Dahill says the production company is going to have a tough time casting, “They’re really struggling, I know that”.

Jon Keller, who reported for CBS, also says local businesses have refused to cooperate.
